According to an update released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Ladd Road near Tully Road. Investigators reported that a westbound green 2026 Porsche coupe, allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the rear of a Ram pickup truck.

The impact caused the pickup truck to lose control, leave the roadway, and overturn. After the initial collision, the Porsche continued westbound before crossing into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with an eastbound Mercedes SUV.

Authorities said the Porsche came to rest in the roadway and caught fire following the head-on crash. The driver of the Porsche, a 57-year-old man from Modesto, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jon Burgess, 38, of Manteca, who was riding as a passenger in the Porsche, suffered major injuries in the collision. Emergency medical personnel transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Several occupants of the other vehicles involved in the crash also sustained serious injuries and received medical care.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the factors that led to the chain-reaction crash. No additional information regarding the conditions of the injured victims has been released at this time.
